NewsBMC Software Acquires Run Book Automation Pioneer RealOps07.19.07 HOUSTON, July 19, 2007 – BMC Software (NYSE: BMC) announced today that it has completed the acquisition of RealOps, a leading provider of run book automation solutions.
“Organizations today require strong ties between operations and Service Management that expand the value of both,” said Jim Grant, senior vice president and general manager of BMC’s Enterprise Service Management business unit. “The acquisition of RealOps provides BMC with a mature product that fits well with our BSM strategy and delivers industry-leading capabilities today that competitors like HP Software talk about but can’t deliver.” RealOps complements and extends the industry leading BMC Remedy IT process automation platform. The combination of RealOps’s run book automation solution and BMC’s industry leading Atrium Configuration Management database (CMDB) enables IT organizations to integrate and automate operational activities across a number of IT management functions. The combined solution also provides an unprecedented level of intelligent automation that enables IT organizations to better prioritize their operational responses, producing a higher quality of customer service and operational efficiency and reducing operational costs. "BMC’s acquisition of RealOps highlights the incredible value of automation and integration within IT management environments," said Sean McDermott, RealOps president, chief executive officer and founder. “Our current customers, prospects and partners will significantly benefit from the powerful combination of these two companies’ offerings, integrating events from multiple systems into one library, for a seamless operation.” "The ability to automate IT operations management processes has been realized owing to several factors,” said David Williams, research vice president at Gartner, Inc. “These include the adoption of best practices, IT organizational maturity and RBA tools arriving in time to provide the ability to design, build and orchestrate the processes and to provide integration with a wide range of IT management tools that support the processes, including change, configuration and release management.”1
